Balooch

The Baluch people are an Iranic group who live across a wide area, spanning southeastern Iran, southwestern Pakistan's Balochistan region, and southwestern Afghanistan's Nimruz. The carpets woven by the Baluch people are characterized by a limited color palette, featuring deep reds (burgundy), purples, and blacks (dark blue). The designs typically include repeated geometric patterns, mihrab motifs, and linear depictions of flowers, birds, and trees. The people of Sistan, on the other hand, weave more figurative patterns, such as family scenes or riders on horseback. Tribal carpet researcher Ali Hasouri notes that the carpets woven by the Baluch and Sistan people should not be confused under the term "Baluch." Due to the distinctive characteristics, Sistan carpets and Baluch carpets should be considered separately.
